MOSCOW, May 28 (PNA/Sputnik) — A magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck the southern Atlantic Ocean near the British overseas territory of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said Saturday. Tremors were felt 31 miles northeast of the uninhabited Visokoi Island at the depth of 58 miles at 09:47 GMT, the USGS reported. Tropical Storm Bonnie ‘slowed to a crawl’ Saturday evening but may pick up speed again overnight before settling back down on Sunday.

Tropical Depression 2 was upgraded to Tropical Storm Bonnie just before 5 p.m. on Saturday when the system along South Carolina’s coast started producing harsher winds and heavier rainfall.

A storm now swirling about 220 miles southeast of Charleston did not strenghten overnight as forecasters predicted, but the South Carolina coast remains under a tropical storm warning nonetheless.
