Music has probably sparked more youthful rebellion than any factor aside from straight up puberty, and “Northern Soul,” the directorial debut of noted fashion photographer Elaine Constantine, tells the story of one of those adventures. The movie opens next month in the U.K., and a new trailer just dropped.
“Northern Soul” tells the story of two young friends, weighed down by the dull life in their small, blue-collar town. As many young men do, they dream of something much grander, and when they discover American soul music, their lives and their paths are forever changed. From this trailer, the film looks like a tale of following your dreams and your passions, and both the joys and consequences of those choices. Not the most original plot, to be sure, but working within those confines, there is definitely room to create an engaging movie.
