Aldridge blasts Liverpool over Guehi decision
Posting on X after the weekend’s action, the former Liverpool striker didn’t hold back in his assessment of the situation.
He wrote: “It’s getting more obvious what a shocking decision to not ensure the Guehi transfer was completed!!
“He’s actually been in a team that’s beat us 5 times this season and getting better each game! Shocking! and for a moderate fee”
It’s a strong claim, but one that reflects growing frustration among sections of the fanbase, particularly with the England international continuing to impress at the highest level.
The 25-year-old centre-back was heavily linked with us last summer, with a deadline-day move collapsing after Crystal Palace failed to secure a replacement, before Manchester City eventually swooped in January.
Since then, the defender has gone from strength to strength, even finding the net in City’s recent win over Chelsea, further underlining what we may have missed out on.
Missed Guehi opportunity becoming clearer
The criticism isn’t new either, with respected journalist Henry Winter previously suggesting that Liverpool’s hesitation proved costly, noting that “Liverpool’s failure to move earlier and more decisively for Marc Guehi last summer… has cost them dear.”
That point feels even more relevant now, especially as defensive issues have crept into our performances at various stages this season.
Meanwhile, the player himself has remained philosophical about his move to Manchester City, explaining: “It wasn’t really up to me. It was God’s plan, and God’s plan has come to full fruition.”
From our perspective, the timing of these discussions couldn’t be more significant, with PSG visiting Anfield on Tuesday night in a must-win European tie.
