Formula 1 Is Coming (Back) To IMAX
Formula 1 is back on IMAX screens. This time, though, Brad Pitt will likely only be looking on from the paddock (or a cushy chair somewhere). The movie based on the sport may have graced screens first, but F1 and Liberty Media have announced that five races will be shown live on IMAX screens across the country for the first time.
The first of five Grand Prix will be shown on May 3. Racing action in Miami will be put up across some of the largest screens in the country, followed by races through October. The full list is below:
- Miami Grand Prix – May 3, 2026
- Monaco Grand Prix – June 7, 2026
- British Grand Prix – July 5, 2026
- Italian Grand Prix – September 6, 2026
- United States Grand Prix – October 25, 2026
The new medium is part of Apple TV's promotion of the sport following Apple's acquisition of broadcasting rights from Liberty Media. Apple TV subscribers already have access to full race weekend coverage, but the in-theater programming will differ slightly. Each will run around 150 minutes, including pre-show, the race, and the podium ceremony and celebration. Notably, the full run of race weekend events, from free practice to qualifying, won't be shown on screens, only the races. Tickets should run around $30 before taxes and fees.
