Lamar Odom Gives Sobriety Update After Recent DUI
Lamar Odom insists he's drug and alcohol-free, nearly three months after he was arrested and charged with DUI back in January.
The NBA star opened up about his sobriety in a new interview with Page Six Radio on April 8, as he continues to promote his new Netflix documentary, Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom.
“Right now I'm completely sober—I don't even drink alcohol,” Odom told the outlet. “If you do your education, addiction [is where] you suffer from a brain disease, just like cancer or any other disease. I don't think anyone would wish to have cancer.”
He added, “So, me being educated on disease, the more and more I get educated, the more and more it's easier for me to stay sober. If you have an addictive mind, the last thing you want to do is feed it any type of drugs.”
In another recent interview with USA Today, Odom said he was “almost 60 days completely sober.” He added, “No pot, no alcohol. I think, with me, stopping the marijuana was probably the hardest.”
Lamar Odom's DUI Arrest
Odom was arrested and charged with DUI on January 17, 2026 in Las Vegas.
According to court records, via USA Today, he was also accused of driving 41 MPH over the speed limit. He pleaded not guilty, with a bench trial set for July.
He has since completed a 30-day treatment program at a Los Angeles recovery center.
Odom's Past Drug Use
Both Odom and ex-wife Khloé Kardashian opened up about his substance abuse issues in the recent Netflix doc.
In it, Khloé said she felt Odom was using cocaine “responsibly” around the time they first got together, calling it something he did recreationally at parties. But things soon began to spiral.
Speaking in the doc, Kardashian said Odom would routinely “escape rehab” and go on benders, often leaving her in the dark about his whereabouts.
“I was either looking for him in alleys, looking for him in motels. He would have tinfoil cutouts, or spoons, and freebasing things and leaving things everywhere,” she explained. “I remember needing to go to hotel rooms to clean up after him, so the housekeeper wouldn’t sell the story. I was such an enabler without knowing I was an enabler. But I just felt such a responsibility to cover this up, hold it together, and protect him.”
It all culminated in a 2015 overdose at a Nevada brothel, after which he was put on life support, in a coma, and suffered 12 strokes and six heart attacks. Though they had already separated by that point, Khloé withdrew her divorce filing to care for him, not thinking anyone else in his circle would step up to the plate like she would.
When he was discharged, Kardashian said she rented a home for Odom to recover, hiring a personal chef, while working with him on his treatment. There, however, he started to use again and she kicked him out.
Kardashian later re-filed for divorce and wouldn’t speak with him in person for nine years, something she documented on a recent season of The Kardashians.
