Charles Melton Got a Salmon DNA Shot After Suffering Injury While Filming 'Beef' Season 2

The 35-year-old Beef actor spoke out in a new cover story for the magazine, out now, along with a hot shirtless spread photographed by Charlie Denis.
During the conversation, he spoke about starring in Season 2 of the hit show Beef, his mother making a cameo, getting injured on set, his approach to acting, and much more.

On filming Beef in South Korea:
“I’ve never felt so connected to my Koreaness.”
On his mom’s cameo in the show:
“She was asking me about her SAG card. I was like, Mom, you need to chill!” [...] It wasn’t hard for her. She was a natural. My mom’s the funniest person in the world, just with her physical comedy and her timing.”
On injuring himself on set:
“I had to get a shot in my hamstring with salmon DNA. Every time I squeezed my leg, caviar came out.”
On approaching acting like an athlete:
“A professional athlete doesn’t just show up to the event. They train, they work, I’m very meticulous and take an athlete’s obsessive approach to work.”
On how Lee Sung Jin pitched Beef to him:
“He said, it’s like 40% of Sopranos. You know when Tony Soprano is hiding or lying. You’re kind of in the mind with him.”
On what Beef means to him:
“If Riverdale was my Juilliard, Beef is me coming home.”
On his favorite coffee shop in Los Angeles:
“[Handles Coffee] People should go there! The coffee is great!”
On why he loves Korean cinema:
“They’re not playing the comedy, but the context of the situation and the circumstance makes it hilarious for the audience, [Beef is] singular because there’s many things being felt.”
