Artemis II Mission Doesn't Have a Fan in this Emmy-Nominated Actor
Artemis II has certainly become the talk of pop culture. The 10-day mission that launched on April 1 is widely being celebrated as it sees NASA astronauts Victor Glover, Reid Wiseman, and Christina Koch (along with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen) venture to the moon. While the mission has found fans across the country, admiring the mission, some don’t quite see the value in the space venture. In particular, there’s at least one Emmy-nominated actor who is asking, “What’s it all for?”
So who is the actor in question? This time, we’re talking about comedic actor Anthony Anderson.
Anthony Anderson Asks, “What’s It All For?”
A reporter from TMZ recently caught up with the black-ish star and inquired about his thoughts on the Artemis II mission. The reporter asked, “From a regular people perspective, do people actually care?” Anderson responded:
“Uh, me personally, not really. I hear something like how much money it costs us just to turn the block around the moon, for no other purpose, other than to say that, you know, we sent four people further into space than anybody else has. It really doesn’t make any sense to me when we look at the grand scheme of things about what we need here and at home. For society, you know?
“I still drive around, I still see homelessness, you know, I still see dilapidated buildings, in the inner city. I still see programs that need funding, that can’t get funding to actually help people, and things like that. So to spend this type of money just to circle a place that we’ve only gone to once in the last 60 years or so and not have anything and not do anything, what’s it all for? Uh, that’s my take on it.”
How Much Does the Artemis II Mission Cost?
Given Anderson’s take on the matter, it begs the question, “How much does the Artemis II Mission cost?” Well, according to Aerospace Testing International:
“NASA’s Inspector General estimates Artemis has cost around US$93 billion so far. Each launch costs around US$4 billion.”
With all that being said, what do you think? Is the hefty price tag of the Artemis mission worth the fascinating exploration? Not for nothing, reports have noted, “The moon has potential for clean energy generation through methods like solar power and helium-3 extraction.”
