'Extra Caution' Advised In 7 States as Winds Reach 60 mph

The National Weather Service has issued wind advisory warnings in seven states across the U.S. due to rising wind speeds and dangerously cold conditions in some areas.

The warnings are in place mostly throughout the Midwest, with some counties in northern Florida also facing harsh conditions coming in from the Atlantic.

According to the NWS, wind speeds could reach upwards of 60 mph in the most strongly affected areas. The cities of Horse Creek, Pumpkin Vine, Buford, Vedauwoo, Federal, and Whitaker in Wyoming are facing a more severe "high wind warning" due to gusts of 60 mph or more.

"Strong cross winds will be hazardous to light weight or high profile vehicles, including campers and tractor trailers," the advisory warns. "A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 MPH or gusts of 58 MPH or stronger can lead to property damage."

In counties throughout North and South Dakota, advisories will remain in place until the evening of April 8. "Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution," the NWS warns.

East-Central Florida also faces various wind and cold weather warnings due to ongoing stormy conditions on the coast. The NWS predicts heavy rainfall, rip currents, and boating hazards that could prove especially dangerous.

"Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result."

The counties of Volusia, Brevard, Indian River, Martin, and Saint Lucie in Florida have also been placed on flood watch. "Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations."
