Tottenham starlet could have his summer transfer plans scuppered by latest injury setback
Tottenham fans will not be too pleased to learn how things are unfolding for Kota Takai on loan at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Takai joined Borussia Monchengladbach on loan back in January without making a single first-team appearance for Spurs.
The Tottenham youngster made a decent start to his spell at the Bundesliga club, but he was unable to build on the momentum as Takai picked up an injury last month.
The Japanese defender even returned to Spurs for treatment, but the season continues to be an extremely frustrating one for the 21-year-old.
Tottenham youngster Kota Takai continues to be sidelined with an injury
According to Football.London, the centre-back’s injury woes have not subsided and he remains on the treatment table.
Takai, who was sidelined with injuries for much of the first half of the season at Spurs, is currently out with a muscle strain and missed Gladbach’s draw with Heidenheim on Saturday.
Football.London point out that there have been reports suggesting that Takai wants to extend his stay at the Bundesliga club, the Tottenham man’s injury woes could scupper those chances.
Borussia Monchengladbach could purchase Takai permanently from Spurs
According to reports, Gladbach have been impressed by Takai despite the errors he has made at the back and his injury woes.
Reports in Germany have suggested that the Bundesliga club have the option to purchase the Spurs defender permanently in the summer, with the clause said to be worth ‘in the high single-digit millions’.
However, it was revealed that they look unlikely to activate the clause, and one would expect Takai’s persistent injury woes to make a permanent transfer even more unlikely.
