Dan Hurley vows Luke Murray will usher in ‘renaissance’ at Boston College

INDIANAPOLIS — With UConn’s loss to Michigan in the national championship game here Monday night, Luke Murray has officially coached his last game with the Huskies.
Murray will now get to work trying to revive a Boston College program that went 23-39 in the last two seasons under former coach Earl Grant.
UConn coach Dan Hurley says Murray is about to usher in a “renaissance” at the ACC school.
“Luke is like a brother,” Hurley said following Michigan’s 69-63 win over UConn in the championship game. “We’re both very similar. We’re both hard to work with.
“We’re very similar, though. We’re like the same person, and we’re both bald. He’s a brother. He’s worked with me at every place I’ve been. We’ve made each other better. We’ve got a deep friendship. Boston College is about to have a renaissance in basketball.”
Murray, 41, was officially named BC’s new head coach last week and vowed an “aesthetically pleasing” yet “tough” style of play.
“To the fans, to the alumni, to the former players, it’s going to be an exciting time,” Murray said at his press conference. “You know, I don’t think I’m as bold as my as my guy, Coach Hurley to say, ‘You better get us now,’ but that’s sort of how I’m sort of how I’m feeling. You know, I’m not quite there yet….Boston College men’s basketball program is going to look a little bit different than it’s looked in the past.
“And I think our style of play is going to be one that is aesthetically pleasing. Fans and players and supporters of the program are going to enjoy to watch us play. It’s going to be a game that is based on unselfishness and movement and sharing the basketball and shooting and scoring, but at the same time, we’re going to be a very tough and competitive and hungry basketball team, and we’re going to be prepared above all else.”
Murray has already hired former Syracuse assistant Brenden Straughn to his staff.
Bill Murray, Luke’s famous father, will now have to root on the Eagles instead of the Huskies.
“I know he’s excited to come up to Boston,” Luke told reporters. “He loves the city. He’s been around this campus a little bit. I’m sure he’ll be a fixture here as well.”
