Seiko Just Revealed the Most Advanced Prospex Ever
Here at SHARP — like watch enthusiasts everywhere — we’re counting down the days to Watches & Wonders, which kicks off on April 14th in Geneva. In the meantime, however, there’s plenty of exciting news in the watch-o-sphere to keep us occupied.
Among the most alluring releases of recent weeks was Seiko’s 2026 collection, including fresh designs in the King Seiko, Prospex, Presage, and Astron collections. Seiko’s newest offerings span its full range of watchmaking savvy, with a quartet of 145th-anniversary editions, several retro re-editions, and a pair of seriously upgraded divers’ watches. Whether honouring the legacy of founder Kintaro Hattori or the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), Seiko once again does not disappoint.

Four limited-editions unite around a common theme: gold-coloured accents echoing founder Kintaro Hattori’s engraved timepiece designs from 1881. The King Seiko SJE121 (Caliber 6L35, 39.4mm, limited to 800 pieces) brings a new grey dial to the collection, inspired by the engraving on the case of an early Seiko pocket watch, but the most distinctive is easily the Presage SPB538 (Caliber 6R51, 35mm, limited to 1,450) which is inspired by Hattori’s first pocket watch, with an enamel dial, an onion crown, and a cuff-style leather strap.

As the only tonneau-shaped model in the dressy Presage lineup, the “Craftsmanship” Enamel Dial Tonneau SPB537 represents a departure from the collection’s predominantly round case offerings. A continuous production model (as in: Not limited), it’s powered by Caliber 6R5H with a 24-hour subdial, a 72-hour power reserve, and a large 46mm x 36mm case. Its enamel dial is handcrafted by master artisans Mitsuru Yokosawa and Kazunori Uchiyama in a Roman numeral design inspired by the 1895 Timekeeper pocket watch.

Building on a legacy that began with Japan’s first diver’s watch in 1965 and its first 300m-rated model in 1968, these two new Marinemasters (1968 Heritage Diver’s Watch HBF001 and JAMSTEC Limited Edition HBF002) significantly raise the bar (and the price) for the Prospex collection. Both are powered by the top-tier Caliber 8L45 (72-hour power reserve, +10/-5 seconds/day), a movement previously reserved for higher-tier models. The HBF001 ($4,975) sports a classic black dial and a ceramic bezel, while the JAMSTEC collaboration HBF002 ($5,375, limited to 1,000 pieces) features a striking textured blue gradient dial evoking the path of an Arctic icebreaker through the ice. Both share a 42.6mm stainless steel case, 300m water resistance, and an updated slide-adjust clasp allowing 16mm of adjustment.

The VANAC (a glorious acronym that stands for Vibrant, Active, Novel, Alternative, [and] Comfortable) traces its roots to a bold, angular 1972 King Seiko design. It was revived last year in stainless steel with a new automatic movement, and these three new titanium variants represent the next evolution. All three (HKF001 purple, HKF002 gray, HKF003 black) share a 41mm titanium case, the Caliber 8L45 movement (72-hour power reserve), 10 bar water resistance, and a new Tokyo cityscape-inspired dial with radiating and horizontal line patterns. Priced at $5,235 each, they’ll be available in July 2026 as continuous production models.
