'Better Call Saul' Beloved Villain Returns in New 'Daredevil: Born Again' Teaser

The hype train isn't slowing down. 10 days before Daredevil: Born Again returns, Marvel has dropped another teaser, and it brings a Better Call Saul favorite back into Hell’s Kitchen.

Directly interlinking with the broader MCU, the new trailer raises the stakes not just for Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, but for the entire vigilante underworld of Hell's Kitchen, including fan-favorite Tony Dalton’s Jack Duquesne. The second season of the highly anticipated revival is almost back on our screens.

Jack Duquesne first appeared in Hawkeye as the mysterious socialite and new beau of Eleanor Bishop, Kate Bishop's mother. Early in that series, he was accused of murdering his uncle, Armand Duquesne III. Armand had discovered Eleanor Bishop's connections to Wilson Fisk and threatened to expose them. Acting under Fisk's orders, Eleanor killed Armand and framed Jack for the crime to cover for herself and keep Fisk's involvement hidden.

We last saw Jack Duquesne in the first season of Born Again, where Wilson Fisk met with him to discuss supporting the Red Hook port project. Jack initially refused, but Fisk blackmailed him into cooperation. During one of their few exchanges, Fisk even called him by the moniker Swordsman for the first time in the MCU. But when the Kingpin declared martial law, Duquesne ended up imprisoned at the Red Hook dungeon alongside Frank Castle and other vigilantes.

Will the socialite might finally embrace his vigilante identity in season two?

The new teaser shows Jack fighting, possibly against prison guards at Red Hook, or perhaps joining the fight alongside the team. The footage also features him talking to Matt Murdock and telling him, "You're a symbol now. Hope for an entire city." That line signals significant character development and hints that he could appear in upcoming MCU projects down the line.

The new season brings back other fan favorites from the Netflix iteration of Daredevil. Jessica Jones returns, along with Detective Brett Mahoney. Trailer appearances and cast announcements suggest we have not seen the last of James Wesley, Wilson Fisk's late right-hand man, or Matt Murdock's best friend Foggy Nelson. On the new character front, Matthew Lillard has been announced to play a character named Mr. Charles, though details about his role remain under wraps.

Fans have also noted that the new teaser may contain several red herrings, particularly when it comes to hints about a redemption arc for Benjamin Poindexter, also known as Dex.

For Dalton, the role of Swordsman represents another turn as an elusive antihero. The actor first won fans as the fan-favorite drug lord Lalo Salamanca in the AMC series Better Call Saul, and his casting as Swordsman was met with considerable excitement at the time. Audiences were eager to see him portray another morally complex character. But if the trailers are any indication, it is not impossible that we might finally see Tony Dalton play the good guy.
