Premier League stat shows why Tottenham may struggle to create goals until April
The list of contenders for a prestigious Premier League award clearly sheds light on the main issue that has crippled Tottenham all season.
Tottenham are being warned by many that they are in big danger of relegation after their 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace.
It has been an extremely poor season domestically for Spurs, who have struggled both offensively and defensively.
The Tottenham fans were extremely frustrated at the lack of attacking intent under Thomas Frank, and not much has changed since the Dane was replaced by Igor Tudor.
Tottenham’s creativity issues exposed by 2025-26 Premier League Playmaker award
The Premier League have now shared the leading contenders for the Playmaker award, which goes to the player with the most assists in a season.
The man who is comfortably leading the list is Man United’s Bruno Fernandes, who has 14 assists to his name this season, six more than the second-best, Rayan Cherki.
However, only one Tottenham player features in the top 10, Mohammed Kudus, with five assists in the league this season.
With James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski out with injuries, the Lilywhites have relied on the likes of Kudus to create goalscoring opportunities for them this season.
The Ghanian’s injury coincided with an ever-bigger drop in form for the North Londoners, and it is not hard to see why.
Kudus is not expected to be fit until April, with the winger still recovering from the hamstring injury he picked up at the start of January.
Spurs need Xavi Simons to step up
Given their bloated injury list, Tottenham do not have much quality in the final third of the pitch.
The only fit player who can create something out of nothing is Xavi Simons, who has shown glimpses of his quality over recent months.
If Spurs are to pick up the two or three wins they need to get themselves to safety, one would think that the attacking midfielder needs to step up and provide the spark in attack.
