Igor Tudor reveals what Cristian Romero has been doing during his four-match Tottenham ban
Igor Tudor has now opened up on Cristian Romero’s return to the Tottenham first team following his four game ban in the Premier League.
Focus now turns to the Champions League for Tottenham Hotspur, where they will be looking to maintain their strong run of form.
Spurs have suffered just one defeat in Europe this season, with that loss coming against Paris Saint-Germain in the league phase.
However, the round of 16 kicks off on Tuesday, adding an entirely different layer of complexity to the competition, and Tottenham will be looking to give a good account of themselves.
Igor Tudor backs Romero to show leadership
Ahead of their clash with Atletico Madrid, Spurs have now been handed a big boost, with a key figure, Cristian Romero, set to return.
The Argentine had been serving a four-game ban in the Premier League, which is now completed, but he is yet to feature under new interim boss Igor Tudor.
Speaking to football.london, Tudor explained how much work Romero has done behind the scenes and backed the defender to show his leadership again upon his return.
He said: “He missed a lot. He was also not feeling good to be in the circumstances not to help the team. He has been doing a lot. He has been working with the fitness coach and doing a lot of running to be in a top condition. Now he can show tomorrow that he is a leader like always.”
Pedro Porro highlights Romero importance
Tottenham full-back Pedro Porro also spoke ahead of the Champions League encounter during the press conference alongside Tudor.
Porro discussed Romero’s influence within the side and admitted the team felt the defender’s absence during his suspension.
Speaking during the press conference, the Spaniard made it clear how important Romero is to the squad.
He said: “He makes all the difference and we missed him a lot because he can give a lot to the team. We were missing him. We are delighted to have him back.”
