Man Utd now targeting move for £24m Spanish winger, could replace Marcus Rashford

Manchester United are likely to sign a new left winger during the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils are currently placed third in the Premier League standings with 51 points and look on course to qualify for European football next season.

This would require a bigger squad to handle the extra workload, and Sport claim that Como winger Jesus Rodriguez is on the club’s radar to bolster the left wing.

In our opinion, the 20-year-old could be seen as a replacement for Marcus Rashford, who looks poised to join Barcelona permanently after his season-long loan stint.

United could pursue Rodriguez as Rashford replacement

Rashford fell out of favour under former United head coach Ruben Amorim, and he was loaned out to Barcelona last summer with an option to buy for £26 million.

The Blaugrana have already been convinced to purchase him on the back of a tremendous campaign where he has made 23 goal contributions from 37 matches.

With Rashford anticipated to depart, United could utilise the incoming funds (£26m) and his wages (£15.6m per year) to bring in a young left winger with immense potential.

Rodriguez would be an ideal solution for the club. The youngster signed for Como from Real Betis for £24m last summer and has played a big part in their top-four league push.

The Spaniard has 11 goal involvements from 28 appearances, primarily from the left wing.

Still a raw talent, Rodriguez has dazzled with his strong dribbling skills, cutting inside from the left flank and has created 10 big chances for Cesc Fabregas’s side this term.

Como have exceeded expectations during the ongoing season, and they are presently fourth in Serie A with 51 points, just ahead of Roma and Juventus with 10 games left.

Qualifying for Europe could be negatively affected by the need to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play. Como’s transfer investment exceeds their club revenue at the moment.

This could trigger a big-money sale, something which Aston Villa have been dealing with.

We believe United could test Como’s resolve on Rodriguez with a package of £40-45m. He is not the only target with more lucrative options, such as RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande on the shortlist.

Diomande could cost close to £87m. If United consider a low-cost solution to compete with Matheus Cunha and probably Patrick Dorgu on the left wing, Rodriguez could emerge as a prime target.
