The 5 States Where Gas Prices Have Increased the Most

Over the past few days, gas prices have skyrocketed across the United States with the average price of gas up nearly 50 cents nationwide compared to this time last week. However, some states have seen a sharper increase than others.

The price increase comes after the United States and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran back on Feb. 28. The conflict has already spilled over into other oil-producing countries in the Middle East and threatened key trade routes.

As fears of a prolonged conflict emerge, oil prices have been skyrocketing.

“West Texas Intermediate, the U.S. oil benchmark, shot up more than 11% on Friday to nearly $91 per barrel after President Trump demanded Iran’s ‘unconditional surrender,’ stoking investor concerns about a prolonged conflict. Brent crude, the international benchmark, jumped to $92.47, the highest level in nearly two years,” CBS News reported this week.

According to GasBuddy, the world’s largest community-based fuel app, the price of a gallon of regular gas was $3.434 per gallon nationwide as of Saturday morning, which is up from $2.972 last week and $2.891 last month.

While gas is now more expensive across the entire country, here are the five states where prices have increased the most since last week, according to GasBuddy.

5. Texas

Last week, the average price of gas in the state of Texas was about $2.562. As of Saturday morning, the average price in the state had increased dramatically, increasing 53.2¢ to an average price of $3.094 in the state.

4. Florida

Florida was also one of the states hit hardest by the increase in gas prices this week as the state saw its average gas price rise from about $2.870 last week to $3.407 as of Saturday morning, marking an increase of 53.7¢ across the state.

3. West Virginia

The average gas price in West Virginia was roughly $2.824 last week, and it has increased dramatically. That number climbed 55.1¢ by Saturday morning, bringing the state average to $3.375 per gallon.

2. Ohio

In Ohio, gas prices stood at approximately $2.773 last week, but it had one of the most dramatic price increased of any state in the country. By Saturday morning, drivers were paying an average of $3.399 per gallon, marking a sharp increase of 62.6¢. Ohio was one of just two states to see an increase of more than 60¢.

1. Indiana

No state saw a more dramatic increase in gas prices than Indiana, which saw its average gas price raise 64.0¢ throughout the state.

Last week, the average price of gas in the state of Indiana was about $2.808. As of Saturday morning, the average price in the state had jumped significantly to $3.448 in the state.

It's worth noting that while it did not have one of the sharpest price increases, California has the most expensive gas in the country with an average price of $5.048 per gallon of regular gas in the state as of Saturday morning.
