Nancy Guthrie Case: Former FBI Agent Shares 'Fear' After Telling Update
It's been well over a month since 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie went missing from her Arizona home in an apparent kidnapping. Despite a high-profile investigation that has now gone on longer than a month, authorities have still not shared many significant updates in the case.
Now, after what seems like a telling move from authorities at this point in the investigation, one former FBI agent is beginning to fear that authorities may not be all that close to solving the case.
'Not Close to a Resolution'
On Thursday afternoon, FBI agents returned to Guthrie's neighborhood, where they went door-to-door speaking to several of the 84-year-old's neighbors. While this might seem like a relatively innocuous update, one former FBI agent seemed to think this was telling about where things stand with the investigation.
Jennifer Coffindaffer, a retired FBI Special Agent and former SWAT Team member who now contributes to NewsNation, has been sharing her opinions on the case on social media throughout the investigation.
On Thursday, Coffindaffer shared her reaction to the news of the FBI agents returning to the neighborhood as she expressed her "fear" that this suggests they are not all that close to solving the case.
"Critical to recanvas and revisit neighbors to make sure nothing was missed and to follow-up on information previously given," she wrote in a post on X. "Lots of work to do, but this makes me fear that they are not close to resolution."
"Just seems like a changing of the guard," she added.
Case is Still 'Red Hot'
Despite this somewhat pessimistic take from Coffindaffer, she expressed some optimism about the case just a few days ago, as she called it "red hot" with possible leads, despite some outlets reporting that the investigation was becoming a cold case.
“Anyone reporting that Nancy’s case is cold has no idea what that term means and has never worked a day of law enforcement in their life,” Coffindaffer wrote in a post on X.
Coffindaffer went on to explain that the FBI actually has many leads that they continue to look into.
“The FBI has so many video leads that they have relocated to Phoenix for additional analytics resources,” Coffindaffer continued in her post. “They have a glove, DNA from inside the house, videos, Porch Guy leads and so much more we know nothing about.”
“This case is red hot in terms of actionable leads….” she said. “It only takes one good one to break the case wide open.”
The FBI is obviously still actively working the case and has continually expressed hope that it could break open at any moment.
