Iran envoy says Tehran appreciates Saudi pledge not to allow attacks from its territory

Iran’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia said Tehran appreciates Riyadh’s commitment not to allow its airspace, waters or territory to be used against Iran.

Alireza Enayati, Iran’s ambassador in Riyadh, said Tehran welcomed repeated assurances from Saudi officials that the kingdom would not allow attacks against Iran from its territory.

“We appreciate what we have repeatedly heard from Saudi Arabia that it will not allow its airspace, waters or territory to be used against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Enayati told AFP on Thursday at the Iranian embassy in Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia had earlier supported diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Tehran and Washington before the outbreak of the recent conflict.

The Iranian envoy also rejected claims that Tehran carried out a drone attack on the U.S. embassy compound in Riyadh. Saudi officials had earlier accused Iran of targeting the compound with a drone, allegations that Tehran denied.

“If the operational command in Tehran targets a place, it takes responsibility,” Enayati said, adding that Iran had no role in the reported attack.

Saudi Arabia has previously accused Iran of missile and drone attacks on its territory, including strikes targeting the Ras Tanura oil refinery. Tehran has denied the allegations.

The conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel sharply escalated on February 28, 2026, when U.S. and Israeli forces launched coordinated strikes on multiple targets across Iran, including military and strategic facilities in cities such as Tehran and Isfahan. The attacks were part of a broader campaign aimed at weakening Iran’s military capabilities and its nuclear program.

Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli territory and U.S. military bases across the Gulf region, including sites in Iraq, Bahrain, and Qatar. The exchange of strikes has raised fears of a wider regional war as both sides continue military operations and warn of further escalation.
