Dogfish Head and Grateful Dead Debut Citrus Daydream Lager, an Easy-Drinking Rice Lager with Citrus Notes

Brewery Dogfish Head has partnered with the Grateful Dead to create the Grateful Dead Citrus Daydream Lager, available now.

Grateful Dead Citrus Daydream Lager is an Easy-Drinking, Citrus-Inflected Brew

Grateful Dead Citrus Daydream Lager (5.3 percent ABV) hit shelves last month. This is the latest collaboration between Dogfish Head and the Grateful Dead, which have produced three previous fan-favorite brews. For their fourth team-up, Dogfish and the Dead opted for an “easy drinking American Rice Lager” which has been brewed with “carefully selected rice and sustainable Fonio grain from Africa, hopped with a mix of Lemondrop and Contessa hops, and brightened with lemongrass, lime, and lemon peel.” Fonio is an ancient grain from West Africa which is drought-resistant and fast-growing. Dogfish promises that “the resulting beer is crisp, clean and super-sessionable with a splash of citrus for a drinking experience reminiscent of sunshine and daydreams.”

It's the Fourth Collaboration Between Dogfish Head and the Grateful Dead

“Dogfish Head and the Grateful Dead both began as mere ideas, and thinking back to the beginnings of Dogfish, never in my wildest daydreams did I imagine we would one day be collaborating with a group as culturally influential as the Grateful Dead,” said Sam Calagione, Dogfish Head Brewer & Founder. “One heck of a wild ride, our now more than 10-year relationship with the Dead has reinforced my belief in the value of thoughtful, authentic, against-the-grain experimentation ... failures be damned. This is the fourth collaboration in just over a decade between Dogfish and the Grateful Dead. The first, American Beauty – an imperial pale ale brewed with granola and honey – debuted in 2013. American Beauty Hazy Ripple IPA – a wheat ale brewed with citrusy hops and spelt – followed in 2019. The most recent was last year’s Grateful Dead Juicy Pale Ale, a tropical pale ale brewed with Kernza perennial grains.
