Christina Applegate Knew Marriage to Johnathon Schaech Was Doomed While Walking Down the Aisle
Christina Applegate is opening up about her marriage to actor Johnathon Schaech and how she realized it wasn’t going to last while she was walking down the aisle at their wedding.
The 54-year-old actress is opening up about that moment in her new memoir, You With the Sad Eyes, which is out now.
Christina got married to Johnathon, now 56, back in 2001 after four years of dating and they split in 2005. Their divorce was finalized in August 2007.
“The whole wedding was a master class in anal perfectionism,” Christina wrote in the book (via EW).

She continued, “But that wasn’t the worst thing. The worst thing was the moment I walked around the corner and into the ceremony. One of my favorite songs was playing, and when I looked hard at the face of my husband-to-be, I thought, ‘Oh f—. F—, oh f—.’”
“I have advice for women. If you go on a first date with a guy and you don’t like his shoes, run — shoes are a telltale sign of whether or not a relationship will last. For our first date, he had shown up in boots, but not even cowboy boots. I think they were supposed to look like a cowboy boot, but they missed the mark by a wide margin. No one should wear such things, but especially not if you live in Los Angeles, California,” Christina wrote.
Christina even said that a voice in her head told her that Johnathon wasn’t the guy for her on their very first date, but they obviously made it all the way to marriage.
“I never considered stopping the wedding — for a start, I was halfway down the aisle,” she said. “I kept thinking, ‘Don’t be that guy. Don’t be that guy. Don’t be that guy. You’re sabotaging. You’re sabotaging. You’re sabotaging.’ Because there I was in my custom gown, the center of this beautiful f—ing wedding filled with all the perfect that you could possibly imagine. And I knew right then that this man was not it for me.”
Christina has been married to musician Martyn LeNoble since 2013 and they share 15-year-old daughter Sadie.
Johnathon recently went shirtless on the red carpet while attending a GLAAD event with his current wife.
