Nancy Guthrie Case: Man Previously Detained by Police Breaks Silence

A man who was briefly detained and questioned regarding Nancy Guthrie's disappearance last month has opened up in a new interview, vehemently denying he had anything to do with the case.

Luke Daley, 37, was taken in on Feb. 13 after SWAT members descended on the home he shares with his 77-year-old mother. Both Daley and his mother Mary were questioned and later released.

Daley addressed the experience in an interview with “True Crime Arizona” host Briana Whitney on Monday.

Daley denies any involvement

Daley told Whitney he was not involved in Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping, despite the fact some people think he resembles the masked man seen in surveillance footage.

“It’s not me. I don’t see the resemblance of it looking like me," Daley said. "Absolutely not. I have nothing to do with this case.”

While Daley does have a criminal past--he has multiple drug convictions, including one that resulted in an 18-month prison stint--he denies any connection to Guthrie.

“I, like everyone else, just want Nancy to come home and be safe,” Daley said.

Daley's lawyer also weighs in

In a statement released to PEOPLE, Daley's lawyer Chris Scileppi confirmed his client was the subject of two search warrants on Feb. 13 but maintained Daley has "no link" to the missing 84-year-old woman.

"Daley and his mother were both detained by law enforcement while the search warrants were being executed," Scileppi said.

"Neither Daley nor his mother were arrested in connection to this case or any other. Daley has no link whatsoever to Nancy Guthrie and has no information related to her kidnapping. Like the entire Tucson community, both Daley and his mother are hopeful that Nancy will be returned to her family unharmed."

Sheriff believes investigation 'getting closer'

In an interview with NBC News Monday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos says that his personnel, along with the FBI, have made progress.

“I think the investigators are definitely closer,” Nanos said.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home in Tucson on Jan. 31. On Feb. 1, her family, including daughter Savannah Guthrie, longtime Today cohost, reported her missing after she failed to show up to a scheduled event with friends.

“We feel the love and prayers from our neighbors, from the Tucson community and from around the country ????,” Savannah Guthrie said in her latest public message. “Please don’t stop praying and hoping with us. Bring her home.”
