Premier League deletes post making fun of Tottenham star after Spurs complaint
The Premier League have decided to delete one of its social media posts about a Tottenham Hotspur star, amidst widespread criticism.
Tottenham fell to another loss in Igor Tudor’s second game in charge as Fulham emerged 2-1 winners in the London derby at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
The game involved a controversial incident, with Fulham’s opener allowed to stand even though Radu Dragusin appeared to be pushed by Raul Jimenez in the build-up.
Igor Tudor complained about the inconsistency from officials, pointing out that Tottenham had a goal ruled out in the North London derby under similar circumstances.
Premier League post video mocking Tottenham star Guglielmo Vicario
To rub salt into Tottenham’s wounds, the Premier League posted a video from their official account poking fun at Guglielmo Vicario.
According to Football.London, they posted a video of a Vicario free-kick against Fulham that was hit long into a part of the pitch where none of his teammates ran.
The video, which was posted in multiple social media channels by the Premier League’s official handle, had the caption: “Just how the play was drawn up”, while the video had the words on it: “An interesting free-kick from Vicario“
It also had a laughing emoji and the word “whoops” on it, thus encouraging a pile-on on the Tottenham number one.
Premier League delete Vicario video after Spurs launched a complaint
Football.London reveal that the video was viewed just under half a million times on X, while it was also posted on the Premier League’s TikTok channel, which has just under 25 million followers.
The post received criticism from Spurs fans for being at odds with the competition’s own messaging about player welfare and mental health.
Tottenham got in touch with the Premier League at various levels to express their dissatisfaction with the video and made it clear that the league should not be mocking its own teams or players, after which the video was taken down.
