Optoma Introduces The UHZ36 4K UHD Laser Projector
Optoma has introduced the UHZ36, a new 4K UHD laser projector aimed at home entertainment setups, expanding the company’s lineup of higher-brightness models.
According to Optoma’s announcement, the UHZ36 delivers 3,500 lumens and a 1,500,000:1 contrast ratio, with support for HDR and FILMMAKER MODE. The projector is built on Texas Instruments’ DLP technology and uses Optoma’s DuraCore laser light source, which the company says is rated for up to 30,000 hours in Eco mode. Optoma claims that it’s up to six times longer than a comparable lamp-based projector.
The UHZ36 offers a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 and a 1.3x zoom with a 1.21–1.59:1 throw ratio, allowing screen sizes from 50 inches up to 300 inches, depending on room configuration. It also includes HDMI ARC with support for Dolby Digital 2.0, Dolby Digital 5.1, and TrueHD 5.1, along with a built-in 15-watt speaker.
Optoma is positioning the projector as a TV replacement for sports and movie viewing. The company highlights its PureEngine image processing and PureMotion frame interpolation, designed to enhance color, contrast, and motion handling during fast-paced content. FILMMAKER MODE is included to preserve original aspect ratios, color, and frame rates, aligning with how content creators intend their work to be viewed.

The UHZ36 is available now in the U.S. at an estimated street price of $1,299 through Amazon and B&H Photo, and in Canada for CAD $1,899.
With its combination of laser illumination, higher brightness output, and built-in audio, the UHZ36 targets consumers looking for a relatively compact 4K projection solution without stepping into premium price tiers.
