Israel Says Iran Launches Missiles After Joint U.S. Strikes; Trump Warns of ‘Long and Major Operation’
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that Iran has begun launching missiles toward Israel following joint airstrikes carried out by Israel and the United States. In a statement posted on X, the military said it had identified missiles fired from Iran and that air defense systems were actively intercepting the threats.
The IDF added that its Home Front Command had issued precautionary alerts directly to mobile phones in affected areas over the past few minutes. Residents were instructed to follow safety guidelines as interception systems remained operational amid fears of further escalation.
Earlier on Saturday,, U.S. and Israeli forces jointly bombed parts of Tehran as well as other major cities, including Qom, Isfahan, and Kermanshah. The specific targets and casualty figures have not yet been confirmed, and Iranian officials have so far remained silent regarding details of the damage.
In a speech following the strikes, U.S. President Donald Trump described the campaign as a “major and sustained operation” aimed at destroying Iran’s missile capabilities. He called on Iran’s armed forces, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and police to lay down their weapons or face “certain death.”
Trump cited more than four decades of anti-American rhetoric from Tehran, including the 1983 attack on U.S. forces in Beirut and Iran’s alleged support for armed groups across the Middle East, as justification for the military action. He argued that Iran’s expanding missile program poses a direct threat to U.S. territory.
Israeli officials have repeatedly warned that they would not tolerate what they describe as Iran’s growing military reach and regional influence. Tensions have intensified in recent months over Tehran’s missile development and its role in regional conflicts, raising concerns of a broader war.
The situation remains highly volatile, with analysts warning that continued exchanges of fire could draw in additional regional actors and significantly destabilize the Middle East.
