One of the most interesting capabilities of artificial intelligence (beyond its potential for revolutionizing…or destroying our society), is its ability to allow designers and engineers to iterate at an increasingly rapid pace. That’s why Casio harnessed AI power, trained with big data on impact resistance, to help create their latest G-Shock watch release, the MTGB4000D-1A.
The new timepiece began with designs created by humans. The sketches were then analyzed and simulated by AI to create both the watch’s unique, organic form, and the Dual Core Guard structure with a frame design integrating carbon fiber and stainless steel to bolster resistance to shock, centrifugal force, and vibration.

The 56.6x45.3 case uses multiple materials to create its rugged (Terminator-like) aesthetic. The frame is cut from a base material of laminated carbon and glass fiber sheets, for a layered appearance. The stainless-steel bezel continues the motif with a dual-layer design, which is polished with both hairline and mirror finishes. The analog, black face features more intricate design work and finishing on each of the four sub-dials. The sword style hands and applied indexes are coated with luminous paint for low light situations.
Echoing the G-Shock's case design and structure, the watch comes on a layered composite and steel bracelet with a one-touch 3-fold Clasp. The pairing is intended to create a solid feel without sacrificing comfort. Inside, the watch is powered by Casio’s Tough Solar tech, and the movement is accurate to ±15 seconds per month. But when in range of a multi-band radio control tower, the watch automatically syncs to an atomic clock. The MTGB4000D-1A also connects to the Casio Watches app via Bluetooth for seamless time adjustment and a watch status display.
Stacked with a robust set of features, the MTGB4000D-1A offers the brand’s signature impact and magnetic resistance, and a 200 meter dive capability. This G-Shock also renders world time for 38 time zones, a 1-second stopwatch, countdown timer, a daily alarm, an LED (Super Illuminator), and a full auto-calendar up to the year 2099.
The G-Shock MTGB4000D-1A is on sale now at casio.com for $1,600.
