'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Season 2: Release Date, Cast, & Everything We Know
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' first season has officially come to an end, with Ser Duncan and his squire Aegon Targaryen leaving Ashford Meadow after an extremely eventful trial by combat that saw the heir to the Iron Throne killed in action.
The show has been a massive success for HBO, with new audiences and Game of Thrones fans alike praising its smaller-scale, more character-driven storytelling and gorgeous cinematography. Thankfully, this won't be the last time we see Dunk and Egg together on-screen.
'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Is Renewed For Season 2
The second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was announced before the first episode was even released, way back in November 2025. This turned out to be a great decision, as the show averaged almost 13 million viewers per episode, according to Variety.
Filming has already begun for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' next season, but HBO has not unveiled an official release date yet. The broadcaster is likely waiting until House of the Dragon season three is finished, which begins airing in June 2026. It will probably be at least a year before we see Dunk and Egg again.
Who Is Returning For 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Season 2?
Unlike the other shows in George R.R. Martin's A Songof Ice and Fire universe, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms won't have a main cast that returns for each season beyond the two main actors. Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell will return as Ser Duncan the Tall and Prince Aegon Targaryen, but the rest of the cast has not been announced.
Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will adapt 'The Sworn Sword', the second short story in Martin's Dunk & Egg series. The story follows the titular character as they embark on a new adventure with Dunk's new master, Ser Eustace Osgrey of the Reach. The story sees Osgrey and his neighbor, Lady Rohanne Webber, get into a complicated land dispute that quickly turns violent.
Another key figure audiences should expect to see in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is Daemon Blackfyre, Egg's great-uncle who led a bloody rebellion against the Targaryens several years before the events of the show. He will likely appear in flashbacks in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, as much of 'The Sworn Sword's story centers around his legacy and importance.
'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Is Planned To Run For Many Years
Although George R. R. Martin has only published three stories in the Dunk & Egg collection so far, he reportedly shared a dozen more unpublished stories with Ira Parker, the showrunner for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. This means that Duncan and Aegon's stories are mapped out in great detail for many years to come.
Parker has even claimed that he has a fifteen-season plan for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, following the two characters through various decades as Aegon goes on to become King of Westeros. Only two seasons have been confirmed, but there's every chance this show could become HBO's worthy follow-up to the cultural giant that was Game of Thrones.
