India Condemns Pakistan Airstrikes in Afghanistan
India on Sunday condemned Pakistan’s deadly airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan, saying civilians were killed during Ramadan and sovereignty was violated.
Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, denounced Pakistan’s airstrikes on Nangarhar and Paktika provinces, calling them unacceptable.
In a statement issued Sunday, the ministry said the strikes during Ramadan resulted in civilian casualties, including women and children, and expressed deep concern.
Jaiswal described the action as another attempt by Pakistan to deflect attention from its internal challenges and strongly condemned the attacks.
India also reaffirmed its support for Afghanistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, urging respect for international norms.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Information had earlier claimed that seven hideouts of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were targeted inside Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban administration, published images of civilian bodies in Nangarhar, rejecting Pakistan’s claim that militants were struck.
The reported deaths of dozens of civilians, including women and children, have triggered widespread criticism from Afghan citizens, international organizations and political figures.
The incident has heightened regional tensions, with renewed calls for restraint and protection of civilians amid fragile cross-border relations.
