FBI Executing Search at Home 60 Miles From Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance

Just before 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, the FBI released the first images of a masked suspect coming face-to-face with the camera doorbell at Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson, Arizona, home in the early morning hours of Sunday, February 1st—the same date she was reported missing.

In the hours since then, onlookers have witnessed a flurry of activity in the state of Arizona, both from the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Less than an hour after the first static images were released, video from the disconnected doorbell camera—which Google managed to retrieve and deliver to the FBI—gave an even closer look at the suspected abductor, who appeared (at least on camera) to be alone. He was also seen wielding a firearm.

At approximately 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, just about eight hours later, it was announced that police had detained a person of interest in the case, who was at the time being questioned by authorities.

While details about the investigation are being released in drips and drabs, that is to be expected in a case of this nature—where every second counts, and investigators are going to want to keep key details close to the chest in order to have the best chance at not only finding the culprit or culprits, but prosecuting them should that time come.

At approximately 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday, we got yet another new update: the FBI, together with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, were executing a search at a home in Rio Rico, Arizona, in connection with the 84-year-old’s alleged abduction. Rio Rico is located about an hour’s drive from Guthrie’s home in Tucson, and just 10 miles from U.S.-Mexico border.

While the Sheriff’s Department did not divulge too much information, The New York Times did learn that the residence had a connection to the person who is currently being held and questioned. They also stated that the search was expected to last a couple of hours.

Currently, authorities have cordoned off a street in Rio Rico, which is located near Interstate 19. According to The New York Times, “A senior law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation said the person being questioned had been detained there.”

In the middle of CNN's on-the-scene reporting, they spoke with a woman who claimed to be the owner of the home that was currently being searched. She stated that her son-in-law, whose name is Carlos, was being questioned about the crime and confirmed that he works in Tucson as a delivery driver. The woman's statements have not yet been confirmed.
