Friends Watch Super Bowl at Party Only to Realize Hours Later It Was From 2015
Super Bowl LX may be in the rearview mirror, but it’s still a hot topic in pop culture. Seahawks fans are rightfully continuing their celebration given the team’s dominating win, Bad Bunny’s performance (with surprise guests Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin) is being rewatched over and over again on YouTube, and celebs and viewers are trying to assess where to rank the game and Halftime Show among those from years past. Beyond all of that, however, over on social media, users are talking about a Super Bowl prank that’s gone viral.
On the day of the Super Bowl, a practical joker decided to host a party. Unbeknownst to his guests, he invited them over not to watch this year’s matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots, but rather the teams’ Super Bowl appearance from 2015. Here’s what happened.
Super Bowl Party Host Pranks Friends with Old Super Bowl Video

According to a TikTok video that is widely circulating on other social media platforms, a guy named Jaden invited his friends over for a Super Bowl watch party with the intent of playing the Super Bowl from 2015 and seeing if his friends noticed. According to the captions in the video, “an hour and a half” went by with the old game playing, and no one caught on to the prank.
The fact that the friend group didn’t catch on for that long is actually remarkable. First, in 2015, the Patriots and Seahawks had two entirely different rosters. During that time, the Patriots were being led by quarterback GOAT, Tom Brady, who has since retired. The Seahawks, on the other hand, had Russell Wilson. So, for none of the party guests to be shocked to see either player on the field is quite interesting.
Then there’s the fact that the video makes it clear that during that hour and a half, only YouTube commercials played. So there likely weren’t any big and memorable commercials playing that the Super Bowl is traditionally known for.
With all that being said, one has to wonder how this prank lasted for so long. If one were to guess, perhaps those in the friend group weren’t super fans of the teams playing in this year’s game, and therefore, didn’t know much about the rosters. Plus, if drinks and food were free-flowing, both can provide a big distraction to the actual game, in addition to all the likely side conversations. Check out the practical joke below.

However, he played a video of the 2014 Super Bowl instead of the current one to see if anyone noticed. Not… pic.twitter.com/xT9glx87pG

Social Media Users React to the Prank
Some users on X (formerly Twitter) seem to understand how a prank of this magnitude could last for almost two hours, while others are just confused and shocked. Take a look for yourself.
With the right crew the game could be muted and nobody would blink ???? food and vibes win every time

I'm so glad I grew up in an age where we partied and actually hung out with each other. pic.twitter.com/Hfl4zNWFuh

This accidentally exposes something people don’t like admitting: most Super Bowl parties are background noise for food and friendship. If the TV went black, half the room wouldn’t even notice for 10 minutes.

That's just crazy... not real sports fans then

the commercials would instantly give it away, though. advertising products and services and movies from 12 years ago? actors dressed and talking and acting like 12 years ago? and nobody notices anything? ????
