UK Deploys Jets to Cyprus Amid Fears of US Attack on Iran
Britain has sent six F‑35 jets to Cyprus to strengthen defence readiness as fears of a potential US-Iran military confrontation escalate.
Britain has sent six F-35B fighter jets to the RAF Akrotiri base in Cyprus to strengthen protection of its regional bases as tensions linked to Iran increase.
UK defense officials said the aircraft left RAF Marham on Friday and will support defensive operations if the Middle East security situation worsens.
The F-35s will operate alongside Typhoon fighter jets already stationed in Cyprus, which are involved in missions against remaining Islamic State targets in Iraq and Syria.
The Times also reported that last month four Typhoon jets from a joint UK-Qatar squadron were deployed to Qatar following rising regional security concerns.
The deployment comes as Iran and the United States resumed talks in Oman after months of tensions. Tehran described the discussions as constructive, though Washington simultaneously announced new sanctions on Iranian oil exports.
Reports also note divisions among US allies, with Gulf states warning against military escalation and refusing to allow their airspace to be used for potential strikes against Iran.
Britain’s move signals precautionary military readiness while diplomatic efforts continue to prevent further escalation across the Middle East.
