Pakistan Forces Retake Balochistan Town After Deadly Clashes
Pakistani security forces, supported by drones and helicopters, regained control of a town in Balochistan after three days of intense clashes with Baloch Liberation Army militants.
According to Reuters, the operation followed coordinated militant attacks launched since Saturday targeting several areas across Balochistan province, including the provincial capital Quetta and surrounding districts.
Security officials say at least 197 militants were killed during the military operation, which was launched after insurgents temporarily seized control of the desert town of Nushki.
Reports indicate the earlier militant attacks killed 22 Pakistani soldiers and 36 civilians, marking one of the deadliest recent waves of violence in the troubled province.
The Baloch Liberation Army claimed it killed 280 Pakistani soldiers during its operation, although the group did not provide evidence supporting its casualty figures.
Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest yet least developed province, borders Iran and Afghanistan and hosts major Chinese investments including Gwadar port, making security stability strategically important.
