Cristian Romero makes huge decision on Tottenham future after public outburst
Tottenham Hotspur fans will not like what is being reported by an Argentine journalist about Cristian Romero after the centre-back’s latest outburst.
The Spurs captain has never been shy of having a go at the higher-ups in N17, and he seemingly did so again on transfer deadline day.
Romero termed it ‘disgraceful’ that Tottenham had just 11 fit players against Man City, clearly sending a sign to the Lilywhites hierarchy that the squad needed more reinforcements in January.
Unsurprisingly, many Tottenham fans are fully behind Romero, as they are equally as exasperated by the club’s inactivity in the transfer window.
Cristian Romero is expected to leave Tottenham in the summer
Argentine journalist Gaston Edul has now claimed that the Tottenham defender has made up his mind to leave the club after his latest complaint.
Edul revealed that Romero was ‘very close’ to attracting offers from La Liga last summer and that Spanish clubs continue to hold interest in him.
The journalist asserts that the 27-year-old’s long-term future will not be at N17 as he has made up his mind to seek a new club at the end of the season.
Edul wrote on X: “Cristian Cuti Romero has interest from La Liga in Spain and another league as well. He had already had interest in the previous transfer window and they came very close to making a formal offer. He is going to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the next June transfer window.”
Romero’s frustrations with the Spurs hierarchy are understandable
The centre-back was willing to commit to a long-term contract in the summer despite having no shortage of interest in his services.
According to one alleged source at Tottenham, the centre-back ‘must feel like promises have not been kept’ (Telegraph).
While the former Juventus man’s frustrations are understandable, five months is a long time in football, and a lot can change before the summer.
Getting him out of Spurs will also not be easy for any club, given how long the defender’s contract runs, and the Lilywhites will demand top dollar for their captain.
