Grammys 2026: Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell win song of the year
Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell won the Grammy for song of the year for “Wildflower,” with Eilish using her acceptance speech to criticize the federal government’s current immigration policies.
“As grateful as I feel, I don’t feel like I need to say anything other than that no one is illegal on stolen land,” Eilish said to cheers and applause from the audience inside Crypto.com Arena. “It’s just really hard to know what to say and what to do right now.
“I feel really hopeful in this room, and I feel we need to keep fighting and speaking up and protest,” she continued. “Our voices really do matter.”
Earlier, Lady Gaga and Lola Young won Grammys for best pop vocal album and best pop solo performance, respectively.
“I’ve been making music since I was a little girl, and every time I’m here I still feel like I need to pinch myself,” Lady Gaga said on winning for her album “Mayhem.”
“I just want to say for women in music, I know sometimes when you’re in the studio with a bunch of guys it can be hard,” she continued. “So I urge you to always listen to yourself, fight for your songs. Fight for yourself as a producer and make sure you are heard loudly.”
Young, who was up against better-known artists including Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan, jumped out of her chair with a scream when she heard her name called as the winner of best pop solo performance for her single “Messy.”
“I don’t know what I’m going to say, I don’t have any speech prepared,” Young said after running on stage to accept the Grammy from fellow Brit Charli XCX. “Obviously, I don’t, it’s ‘Messy,’ do you know what I mean?”
