Bride Upsets Her Sister-In-Law on Her Wedding Day, but the Mother of the Bride Insists She Wasn't the 1 Being 'Rude'
A bride got into a heated situation with her sister-in-law on her wedding day, and now she’s wondering if she was in the wrong.
Taking to Reddit’s popular “Am I the A——” forum, a woman explained that she was not particularly close with her sister-in-law. However, she chose to include her in the big day since she shared a special bond with her husband-to-be.
However, her new sister was irritated when she showed up at the bridal suite and wasn’t welcome in with an unexpected guest.

In her post, the Redditor explained that she had “rented a hotel suite in the city” and “paid for hair and makeup for all [her] bridesmaids.”
She added that she decided to pay for her mother-in-law and sister-in-law, too, so that they would feel included.
However, the women showed up late with the sister-in-law’s husband, who also wanted to hang out in the suite until the wedding started.
“All three of them sat on the couch, and her husband stayed there on his phone. I texted my husband asking if he was supposed to stay and get dressed there. He didn’t know either. I told him this was meant to be a women-only space, since all of us were wearing robes that open easily and our underwear was visible,” the bride explained.
Trying to work things out, the bride proposed that her future brother-in-law wait in the lobby or head to where the groom was. However, her sister-in-law was not thrilled.
“She got upset and tried to leave, but the hair and makeup artists convinced her to come back since it was already paid for,” the bride recalled.
After they finished with glam, she added that her sister-in-law, mother-in-law and brother-in-law “left anyway and waited in the lobby. They even ended up getting dressed in the lobby bathroom, even though my mother-in-law and sister-in-law were allowed to stay in the suite if they wanted to.”
While she wrote that her sister-in-law was “clearly very upset,” the bride said that her mom said that “it was rude to bring a man into a room where only women were getting ready.”
Asking if she made the right decision, the bride was overwhelmingly assured that her sister-in-law had been inappropriate.
“Her husband is an adult, right? I think he can entertain himself for a few hours (bar, take a walk, uber to wherever your husband is),” one person wrote.
Someone else said that the situation was “very absurd,” writing, “She rather get dressed in lobby than let her adult husband go sit in the lobby????”
Regarding the bride’s brother-in-law, someone wrote that he “should have backed out immediately once the situation was clear,” adding that the sister-in-law and her mom “should have told him to get out if he didn’t immediately read the room.”
“Honestly, I think you were under reacting, reaching out to your now husband first and asking him what was up or to take a stand. You could have easily said, ‘Get out right now,’ to your SiL’s husband and still be absolutely positively [not the a------],” they continued.
