Lindsey Vonn, Mikaela Shiffrin, and Others Star in New ESPN Ski Series

Just ahead of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, ESPN is launching a new limited series that gives an inside look into the lives and training of the world's most elite alpine ski racers. 

On the Edge: World Cup Ski Racing, which premieres on January 30, 2026, was directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Pat Dimon and produced by the International Ski & Snowboard Federation in partnership with the Stifel US Ski Team and Team USA.

The series, which consists of five episodes, follows ski racers Mikaela Shiffrin, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, Lindsey Vonn, Marco Odermatt, Lucas Pinheiro Braathen, Ryan Cochran-Siegle, Lara Colturi, and others through the 2025-26 Audi FIS Ski World Cup circuit and preparation for the Olympics. 

“As the countdown to the 2026 Winter Olympics begins, we’re excited to premiere On the Edge and bring viewers inside a sport defined by speed, precision, and risk,” said Lindsay Rovegno, the vice president and executive producer of ESPN Originals. “The series highlights the compelling stories of Olympic hopefuls from around the world, whose careers and ambitions hang in the balance of a grueling World Cup season.”

The series follows these athletes through their intense training schedule, rehab sessions, races, and moments beyond the snow to “create an intimate portrait” of their journeys. 

Dimon, who grew up skiing in Vermont and is a lifelong skier, wanted to capture the human side of the sport as these athletes push towards the Milano Cortina Winter Games. 

“On the Edge is about seeing past the polished surface and dropping into the real line of World Cup racing—the grind of travel, the toll of injuries, the pressure, and the mindset it takes to be and stay at that level," he said. 

The series will be available to watch on the ESPN app and ESPN on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the US and on Disney+ in international markets at a later date.

On the Edge launched as news broke that Vonn, one of the best-known members of the US Ski Team, had crashed during a World Cup event in Switzerland.

Vonn injured her left knee but, in a social media post, wrote “My Olympic dream is not over.”

“I will give more information when I have it,” she continued.

Her fall came amid an outstanding comeback at age 41, during which the ski racing star claimed multiple World Cup podium finishes ahead of the Olympics.
