Trump Says Large US Military Force Moving Toward Iran, Hopes for Deal
US President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that a large American military force is moving toward Iran but expressed hope for reaching an agreement.
Trump told supporters in Iowa that “a big beautiful warship is moving toward Iran right now, so we’ll see what happens.”
The US has significantly increased its military presence in the Middle East over recent months, with multiple carrier strike groups and additional forces deployed to the region. This buildup comes amid ongoing tensions over Iran’s nuclear program, regional proxy activities, and maritime security in the strategic Persian Gulf waterway.
The president claimed he destroyed Iran’s nuclear capability last year and stated he hopes Tehran will agree to negotiations and a deal.
Iran’s nuclear program remains a central concern for Western powers and regional allies, with Tehran steadily advancing uranium enrichment since the US withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement. International inspectors report Iran has accumulated significant quantities of highly enriched uranium, bringing it closer to weapons-grade material despite denying any intention to build nuclear weapons.
A White House official told Reuters on Monday that Washington is ready to engage if Iran reaches out for diplomatic contact.
Meanwhile, Iran has warned that any military action will be met with a response from Tehran, raising concerns about potential escalation.
Trump’s mixed messaging of military pressure combined with openness to diplomacy reflects his administration’s approach toward achieving a new nuclear agreement with Iran.
