Matthew Stafford's Wife, Kelly, Shared Dating Revelation
Los Angeles Rams Quarterback Matthew Stafford's wife, Kelly Stafford, once shared a major dating revelation, and it involved another football player.
The anecdote came from their college days, when Kelly dated Matthew's backup quarterback to make him jealous. Kelly made the comments in 2024 on the Off the Vine podcast. The couple is back in the news with Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams playing the Seattle Seahawks in a January 25, 2026, playoff game.
Matthew Stafford and his wife have an enduring marriage. They were married in 2015, and they have four daughters together: twins Chandler and Sawyer, Hunter, 5, and Tyler, according to The New York Post.
Kelly Stafford Revealed That Their Relationship Wasn't 'That Cute' at First
Although they seem happily married now, Kelly Stafford revealed that the couple's relationship was pretty rocky at first, and she used dating strategies to get Matthew to choose her.
"Long story short, it wasn't that cute of a relationship at first. I hated him. I loved him. I dated the backup to p*** him off which worked," Kelly said on the podcast. "He was the bad boy too. Matthew is so sweet and Southern gentleman and the backup was the complete opposite. They lived in the same dorm because athletes lived in the same dorm, and he would see my car there."
She added: "So, at one point, he waited and followed me out to my car and got in my car and wouldn't get out. He was like, 'He's not right for you.' and I was like, 'You can't tell me that. Get the ---- out of my car'. Meanwhile, he's dating like 12/10s, supermodels."
Kelly Stafford Posted a Photo on a Private Jet
The strategy worked because the couple seems very focused on a happy family life now.
As the playoff game loomed, Kelly Stafford posted a photo showing her on a private jet landing in Seattle with a group of women.
Five days before, she posted a photo of her husband with their daughters, who were wearing matching jackets with his number on them, writing, "Anyone else feel like the stress of these games is shaving years off your life??! Thank goodness the Rams handled the cold better than my jacket."
She also posted a video showing her husband in a huddle with their kids, writing, "Best pregame tradition." Kelly smiled in the background of the video.
"Year 17 regular season is complete. Never thought i would see the day I would go to every game and bring my daughters to 15 out of 17, but I’m so glad I did. What a season to witness in person. The passion for football it instilled in my daughters (now all of the them want to play QB on a girls flag football team) is so fun to see, but also for them to start to understand how hard work and dedication pays off," she wrote in January.
"We all needed that lesson. Watching their dad fail, realizing it’s ok, and it’s how you respond to that failure that makes up who you are. Incredibly blessed to witness the man I love, with the girls I love, do the thing he loves most ❤️
Now onto the next, playoffs baby!"
