Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah Urges Chiefs to Promote Peace, Unity
Vice President Dr Jane Ansah has called on traditional leaders to promote peace and unity among their subjects as a foundation for meaningful national development.
She made the call on Saturday, at Jobe Nyaka village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalumbu in Lilongwe District during the coronation of her cousin Alida Nyaka Mazungwi as Village Head woman Jobe Nyaka.
The Vice President, who attended the event in her capacity as a family member, said the government, under the leadership of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, is committed to promoting unity among all Malawians, regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation.
“As chiefs, you must lead by example by promoting peace and unity among your subjects by being impartial and serving with integrity in the implementation of government programmes in your areas, including the distribution of relief food items.”
Ansah then assured the people that the government is doing all it can to make sure that no one dies of hunger in the country.
Speaking on behalf of other Chiefs, Senior Chief Kalumbu said traditional leaders, will continue to be custodians of development, social cohesion and cultural heritage.
Village headwoman Jobe Nyaka is a retired civil servant who worked as Principal Youth Officer and she retired from civil service in 2019.
During the event, the Vice President distributed 150 bags of maize flour, clothes, blankets to vulnerable people in the area through Dr. Jane Ansah Foundation.
