Sports briefs: Crosswhite leads Dominican women to road win

Isobel Crosswhite came off the bench to score a career-high 25 points as the Dominican University women’s basketball team rolled to a 94-64 road win against Chaminade on Saturday night.

Crosswhite made 9 of her 13 shots and went 7 for 8 for the free-throw line for the Penguins (13-3, 7-3 PacWest), who outscored the Silverswords (0-12, 0-8) in every quarter.

Mahliya Wilson added 19 point for Dominican, which also got 15 points from Keyonee Neal and 11 from Kaylyn Buchanon.

Men’s basketball

Dominican trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half but a late rally came up short in an 85-83 road loss to Chaminade on Saturday night.

The Penguins trailed by 10 with 2 minutes, 11 seconds remaining, before putting together a late surge. Dominican (9-7, 4-6) pulled to within 81-78 on a free throw by Stephen Ransom with 58 seconds left then to within 83-80 on a layup by Darius Best with 14 seconds left. Chaminade (9-5, 7-1) made two free throws before Mo Toure hit a 3-pointer at the horn for the final margin.

Best scored a game-high 24 points and Nick Medeiros added 14 points for the Penguins.

Girls basketball

Reese Patton led all scorers with 14 points as Archie Williams lost a heartbreaker, 34-33 to San Leandro on Friday night. Victoria Anderson Lynch scored eight points and Parker Conrad had 10 rebounds for the Peregrine Falcons (8-7), who trailed 9-1 early in the game.

Prep wrestling

Tam’s Dylan G. Hayes claimed second place at 217 pounds during the King of the Mat tournament in Windsor on Saturday. Hayes went 3-0 with a pair of pinfalls before a 16-7 loss to Willits’ Donald Glenn in the final. San Marin’s Miro Salvado went 2-3 to take eighth place.

San Marin’s Spencer Sisneros (122) placed fourth after a 20-2 loss to Arcata’s Leland Lake. Sisneros went 3-2, including a forfeit win over Novato’s Jiriah Vannasy in the consolation semifinals. Vannasy, who pinned Tam High’s Noah Kaijankoski in the opener, settled for sixth place after forfeiting his final two matches.

Redwood’s Dylan Morton (134) went 5-2 to take third place after a forfeit win. Morton was headed for a showdown in the consolation quarterfinals with San Marin’s Noah Albertson before Albertson was eliminated. Albertson went 3-2.

Tam’s Dylan Van Doren (152) placed fourth after going 3-2, including a second-round pinfall win over San Marin’s Levi Manville in the championship bracket. Manville went 3-2, with a major decision win over San Rafael’s Rio Johnson in a consolation match. Johnson went 1-2.

Novato’s Kaden Wagner-Fuller earned a 7-4 decision over San Marin’s Landon Pearce in the 177-pounder fifth-place match. Fuller scored a pair of takedowns to take a solid lead into their third round. Fuller went 4-2, while Pearce was 3-3.

Redwood’s Hayden Schepps (159) and Tam’s Cole Mapp (167) both took fifth place. Schepps went 4-2, while Mapp was 3-2. The Giants’ Ayaan Naseer (115) placed seventh as he went 2-2 before taking a forfeit win in the medal match. Redwood’s Charlie Seraphine (146) went 2-2.

Boys soccer

Joey Navarrete scored twice to lead San Rafael to a 3-0 win against Kennedy (Fremont) on Saturday night. Logan Dean provided the assists on both of Navarette’s goals. Freshman Bradley Puac also converted a penalty kick for the Bulldogs (7-2-5) for his first varsity goal.

Basketball

The Marin County Free Throw Championship returns on Sunday — at Archie Williams High from 8:30-11:30 a.m. — with proceeds from the event going to help the needy in the community through the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
