Verizon Credit: How to Check If You’re Eligible After Wednesday’s Outage
Verizon's outage on Wednesday left millions of customers without service for much of Wednesday, due to what the network is blaming on a software update issue. The company, which is the largest mobile network in the United States, had 2.3 million outage reports on this day, according to sources.
Although speculation over a potential cyberattack was rife during the outage, a server failure originating in New Jersey is now being blamed for the incident.
"Yesterday, we did not meet the standard of excellence you expect and that we expect of ourselves, Verizon said in a statement on Thursday. As an apology, customers will be eligible for a $20 credit for their next payment.
"This credit isn’t meant to make up for what happened. No credit really can. But it’s a way of acknowledging our customers' time and showing that this matters to us."
Only affected customers will be eligible to claim the $20, and the credit must be manually redeemed if they wish to be reimbursed on their upcoming bills.
How To Check Your Eligibility for Verizon’s Outage Credit Reimbursement
According to the apology statement from Verizon, a text message from the network will be automatically available to customers when their credit is ready to be redeemed. This will be given to eligible customers only.
"On average, this covers multiple days of service," Verizon said. "Business customers will be contacted directly about their credits."
From there, customers will have to redeem their credit in the My Verizon app, which they will have to know their login details for. This has to be done manually, and the $20 will not automatically be taken off your next bill unless it is claimed.
For those who do not automatically receive a text message in the next few days regarding the credit, the My Verizon app is where your credit will be, so it's always worth checking the app itself, even without a text.
New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta were the primary affected areas of the Verizon outage, according to the outage map by Mashable. If you were affected, believe you are eligible, and have not received a credit, contact Verizon through their support page, and make sure to cite the affected area when contacting the network.
