Why We Love This Deal
When Men’s Journal laid out the best sleeping bags for camping, we named the Marmot Mad River 40 as the best down sleeping bag. It’s super warm, and Marmot is a company that’s gained skill working with high-fill down. So, it makes sense that its down-filled jackets also prove quite popular. They come at a price, but for a limited time, Backcountry is selling one of Marmot's best for 40% off.
The Marmot Guides Down Hooded Jacket is currently on sale for $165 at Backcountry. That’s even less than the $178 it reached at REI, where it has nearly sold out already. This deal is marked as a “limited time only” offering, the product has a history of selling out, and a reported excess of 1,500 shoppers are eyeing it as we write this, priming it to be a deal that won’t last long. Here's why it's worth your time.
Marmot Guides Down Hooded Jacket, $165 (was $275) at Backcountry
What Shoppers Should Know
- Sizes Available: From small to 2XL
- Shell: Recycled polyester ripstop
- Insulation: 80% 700-fill recycled down, 20% Ceiba flower down
- Fill Weight: 178g for small, 195g for medium, and 211.6g for large
- Best Use Case: Battling cold temperatures and winter conditions
The Marmot Guides Down Hooded Jacket is a thickly puffed jacket with a solid hood, smartly shiny exterior, and the capacity for some serious warmth. Entry points for cold air are blocked off with elastic cuffs, and a drawcord hood is sure to keep you from suffering from sudden cold gusts. Wear this jacket on standard cold and snowy days alike, and you'll be unfazed by the weather.
The down here is a combination of traditional down and fibers from the flowering bodies of the South American Ceiba tree. This blend additive increases the overall structure’s breathability and allows it to handle dampness better. That being said, the jacket also emphasizes being lightweight and movable (allowing you to roam and not just waddle about), so its exterior will need to be treated with more care than something made out of canvas, for example.
