Winter storm warning issued for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area from Saturday to Monday – wind gusts reaching 40 mph
On Friday at 12:48 p.m. a winter storm warning was issued by the National Weather Service valid from Saturday midnight until Monday Jan. 5, at 10 a.m. for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area.
The NWS Reno NV states to expect, “Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet above 7000 feet with 4 to 12 inches at lake level. Wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph with ridgetop winds gusting over 100 mph at times. Wind gusts up to 40 mph and wave heights of 1 to 3 feet on Lake Tahoe.”
“Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions will impact weekend travel and the Monday morning commute in and across the Sierra. Strong winds could cause damage to trees and power lines,” according to the NWS. “If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
