Fulham’s interest could therefore prove significant. Marco Silva is understood to admire Sterling’s experience, movement and ability to make decisive contributions in the final third.
The West London club have previously explored a move and are believed to see Sterling as someone who could add proven Premier League quality to their attack, while also offering leadership to a relatively young squad.
Sterling remains on substantial wages at Chelsea, meaning any January move could involve a loan arrangement or salary contribution from the Blues.
