‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ Is Streaming Much Sooner Than You Think

If you’ve been looking forward to returning to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza to find out what happened following the events of the hit 2023 movie Five Nights at Freddy’s, its sequel—the aptly titled Five Nights at Freddy’s 2—is already in theaters. But you can also watch it from the cozy confines of your very old living room, as long as you know where to look.

Fives Nights at Freddy’s 2, which is again directed by Emma Tammi, picks up one year after the events of the original film, a somewhat family-friendly supernatural horror movie in which Mike (Josh Hutcherson), a down-on-his-luck twentysomething takes a job as a security guard at an abandoned pizzeria only to discover that there’s some weirdness, and evil, lurking within the eatery’s animatronic characters. 

In the sequel, Mike finds himself heading back to Freddy’s when his little sister Abby (Piper Rubio), who is unaware of the truth behind what happened that fateful night, sets out to reconnect with the animatronic pals she made at the pizzeria. What she learns, however, is the dark history of the restaurant, which includes the murder of a young girl. (Note: Like the original movie, the sequel is rated PG-13.)

The original film, which is based on a video game franchise, was a surprise hit when it came out in 2023, grossing nearly twice of its estimated $80 million budget. While critics weren’t enamored, audiences loved it; the original film’s official Rotten Tomatoes score is a 33 percent, but audience reviews led to a Popcornmeter score of 86 percent. The sequel, however, has fared slightly worse. 

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 currently holds a 16 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 120 critic reviews. Audiences were much kinder, giving it an 85 percent rating. If you want to judge for yourself, you have plenty of options for doing just that.

When Does Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Arrive on Streaming?

Though Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 only arrived in theaters on December 5, it’s already available to stream at home. The movie arrived on a host of streaming platforms on December 23, just 18 days after its theatrical debut. That’s the good news.
The not-as-good news is that it’s not currently available to stream for free, so you’re going to have to shell out some extra dollars if you want to watch it from home. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is available to rent or purchase on Amazon Prime, Apple TV+, Google Play, and Fandango. Though each platform has its own set of options, the basic price—for the moment—seems to be about $19.99 to rent the movie and $24.99 to purchase it. Allowing you to revisit the animatronic terror whenever you’d like.
