How Ravens Defender Responded To Controversial No-Call Against Patriots
A Baltimore Ravens player seemed to realize he got away with a penalty in Sunday night’s New England Patriots win.
Marlon Humphrey tackled Kayshon Boutte as the wide receiver attempted to catch a deep ball from Drake Maye. NBC broadcasters Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth were just as shocked as most fans that the referees didn’t call defensive pass interference, which would have given New England a first down at the goal line while down by three late in the fourth quarter.
On “The Marlon Humphrey Show” released earlier this week, the Ravens cornerback initially admitted that he should have gotten flagged.
“It was in the air forever,” Humphrey said. “I honestly feel like I did tackle bro. I’m pretty sure that should’ve been a PI, but they didn’t call it. So I will take it where we take it.”
However, the four-time Pro Bowler backtracked after rewatching what he labeled a “very odd play.”
“That actually wasn’t as bad as I thought,” Humphrey claimed.
Others may insist that it’s as bad as Humphrey first thought. NBC rules analyst Terry McAulay called it “obvious pass interference” as Tirico and Collinsworth tried to comprehend how the officials missed a tackle they called in real time.
Fortunately for the Patriots, the questionable no-call didn’t alter the game’s outcome. Five plays later, Rhamondre Stevenson scored the go-ahead touchdown to secure a 28-24 win that gave New England a playoff spot.
The Patriots will now look to move closer to an AFC East title when they play the New York Jets on Sunday.
