Sports Briefs: Shapiro has big game, but San Rafael falls to Urban
San Rafael fell to a red-hot shooting Urban team that drained 13 treys en route to a 72-46 victory over the Bulldogs on Monday.
Luke Shapiro led San Rafael (6-6) with 24 points and seven rebounds, who play again the Damian Lillard Classic starting on Friday against Castro Valley.
- Porthos Oliveira led Tam High with 31 points as the Red-tailed Hawks beat American Canyon, 74-58, on Monday. The Hawks (6-7) are scheduled to play Valley Christian on Monday in tournament action in Windsor.
Girls basketball
Branson rallied to force overtime, but fell 46-40 to Carlmont on the road Monday night, despite double-doubles from Kate Spaulding and Juliette Caldwell-Little. The Bulls rallied and had a chance to win the game at the buzzer in regulation, but the shot missed the target. Spaulding had 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Caldwell-Little finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Ava Gordon added six points for the Bulls.
- Tam High fell to Rancho Cotate, 43-21, on Monday. The Red-tailed Hawks (3-6) join the West Coast Jamboree on Saturday.
- Archie Williams went into the holiday break with a pair of strong wins last week. The Peregrine Falcons rallied past Vintage, 38-33, on Saturday after Reese Patton sealed the win at the free throw line in the closing seconds. Patton led all scorers with 22 points, while senior Lila Peterson added seven points. The Falcons (4-3) were coming off a 54-39 victory over Encinal to avenge their loss in the NCS playoffs. Patton had 23 points, while Parker Conrad had 12 points and Peterson had eight.
Men’s basketball
Archie Williams High grad posted 10 points and seven rebounds for Seattle University in Monday’s 71-68 victory over Texas-San Antonio. The Redhawks (11-2) are scheduled to host the USF Dons on Sunday.
