Iconic Actor Slams Trump For Trying To Turn Chicago Into ‘Fascist Hub’ In Explosive Message
John Cusack has accused Donald Trump of trying to turn Chicago into a “fascist hub” after he deployed National Guard troops to the city under the guise of combating crime and strengthening immigration efforts.
Speaking with CNN on Saturday during the “No Kings” protests in Chicago, Cusack, an Illinois native, dragged Trump, telling the US president to “go to hell” before railing against his hardline immigration policies.
“What’s interesting is that he doesn’t understand that all the labour rights around the world came from this town, this place,” Cusack said. “So if he thinks this place is going to be a fascist hub – no chance.”
Since taking office for a second term, Trump has deployed the National Guard to multiple Democratic-led cities, including Los Angeles, Washington DC, Memphis,Portland and most recently, Chicago.
The actor said it’s “upsetting” to see the right wing “devolve” into “sort of a fascist authoritarian.”
“It’s all upsetting. Seeing sort of a fascist authoritarian … seeing that sort of cosplay that the right wing has been fooling around with for so long,” he continued. “Seeing it kind of devolve into the real thing is predictable but deeply saddening.”
The “2012” star went on to slam the president and his “masked goons” for turning Chicago into the epicentre of the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration.
“Everyone knows the score, right? The authoritarians divide and conquer and they create an ‘other’ and then they pick on it, pick on the person, harass them, jail them, and that’s all used as a distraction so they can steal as much as they can [and] maintain power,” Cusack said.
He added, “We all know history. So, that’s what he’s doing, and we have masked goons roaming the streets ... hiding their faces [and] abducting people.”
In 2019, Cusack called out Trump supporters as “flag-sucking halfwits” and “MAGA deathkkkultfreaks” after he was criticised for not standing for a military tribute at a Chicago Cubs game.
He later blasted Trump as a “con man” who is “beyond shame.”
“Trump is a con man, but he’s a bad one. I think he’s more of a sociopath,” he said in a 2020 interview with The Progressive magazine. “He’s decided it doesn’t matter what he lies about or how much he lies about.”
Cusack added, “If it gives him satisfaction in the moment or if it gets more people excited about him, he doesn’t care. He’s beyond shame.”
