Costco Slammed by Shoppers for Its New $16 Dessert: ‘It Was Awful’
Costco fans are on top of the latest products. The warehouse's social media sleuths just spotted a new dessert on shelves, and while treats are usually a home run for the grocer, the Green & Sunny Thai Mango on Sticky Rice doesn't impress shoppers.
The frozen dessert is described on the box as "Thai mango on top of sweet coconut infused sticky rice, drizzled with coconut milk sauces and crispy mung beans." It's 100% plant-based, with four trays of the dessert in one box. Consumers are directed to microwave the dessert for up to one minute and finish with a sprinkle of mung bean.
Despite one loyal customer deeming the dessert as "amazing," commenters are less enthused, saying "it was awful."

"It was sooo gross— don't get it. I couldn't eat one bite," one shopper said, with others agreeing that the "mung bean topping tastes like chemicals."
"Nah," another social media user wrote. "Thai restaurants have it for $10, super fresh and made that day." Most commenters concurred that they would also rather consume the popular meal "fresh."

This looks to be a returning summer dessert, as a Reddit thread commented on the distaste one year ago. "I can't imagine a dish that's supposed to be a fresh mango is as good when the mango is frozen and defrosted," one Reddit user added. "Not as bad as a defrosted strawberry, perhaps, but it just seems off. Like eating a previously frozen salad."
Apparently, for one customer who did try out the dessert, the rice texture was "okay but pretty bland," enabling them not to "repurchase."
Costco is not the only grocer to feel the wrath of social media lately. Trader Joe's shoppers recently slammed the store for its new $5 gelato dessert, dubbing it as a "chemical box."
