That's our friendly neighborhood Spider-Noir alright

If you remember what Spider-Noir looked like in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, then you have a pretty good idea of what Spider-Noir looks like in live action. But if you never saw that film or you suffer from poor memory, Amazon Prime Video has a helpful Spider-Noir first look photo (below) to catch you up to speed. You mightn’t be able to tell under the mask, but this is our first glimpse of IRL Nicolas Cage as the multiversal spider hero, which happens to be the film legend’s first major television role ever.

Spider-Noir, which is set for release in 2026, “tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.” Cage is set to co-star with recent Emmy winner Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson, a “dedicated journalist trying to make it with the odds stacked against him as a black professional in 1930s New York,” per Deadline; he “takes on riskier stories that no one else would touch in order to catch attention and a paycheck” and “is willing to do whatever is necessary for his career.” The series also stars Oscar nominee Brendan Gleeson (whose most recent foray into the superhero industrial complex includes a role in Joker: Folie A Deux), Abraham Popoola, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, and Jack Huston.

The most interesting tidbit released on Monday besides the Spider-Noir first look photo is that the series “will be available in both black and white and color.” That Spider-Noir appeared in Miles Morales’ universe in B&W was a fun joke from the animated film, and it makes sense for the show to be presented in black and white as a nod to the genre. Additionally offering a color version of the show is apparently just an alternate aesthetic option for the audience, which is, erm, generous of Prime if a bit odd. The show, helmed by co-showrunners Oren Uziel (The Lost City) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher), will premiere on MGM+ in the United States and globally on Prime Video the next day.
