Fighters make weight for Japanese Youth title Quadruple header!
On Tuesday fight fans in Japan will be getting a treat as they get a Japanese Youth title quadruple header, getting a great chance to see some of the future stars of the Japanese scene. On Monday the 8 fighters involved in those title bouts took part in their weigh in.
The first of those 4 title fights will see Seiya Iwamoto (8-1, 5) [岩本星弥] battle against Naoto Komatsu (9-2, 4) [小松直人] for the vacant Japanese Youth Lightweight title. On the scales Iwamoto was well under the limit, at 133.6lbs, whilst Komatsu was the much heavier man, hitting the scales at bang on 135lbs. Despite this being a Lightweight title bout, it is worth noting that both have regularly fought at 130lbs during their careers so far.
The second title bout will be for the vacant Japanese Youth Flyweight title, as the unbeaten Atsuki Sano (6-0, 4) [佐野篤希] takes on Atom Sunagawa (6-2, 3) [砂川朝都夢] in a really good looking bout between two men who almost faced off in last year’s Rookie of the Year. On the scales Sano was 111.8lbs, the heavier of the two men, whilst Sunagawa was 111.1lbs, slightly lighter than his unbeaten foe.
The third of the title bouts is 4lbs lighter, with the Light Flyweight title on the line for a bout between Yuma Saeki (3-1, 3) [佐伯侑馬] and Rikuto Sezutsu (4-0, 3) [瀬筒陸斗], in what should be something of a hard hitting war between two men who believe in their power. On the scales Saeki, who’s sole loss came in a Japanese Youth Minimumweight title fight, was 106.5lbs, whilst Sezutsu was 107.6lbs, still comfortably under the limit.
The main event will see Japanese Youth Bantamweight champion Shunpei Kaneshiro (4-0, 2) [金城隼平] defending his title, for the second time, as he takes on Yushi Yamaguchi (2-1) [山口友士]. On the scales the champion was 117.5lbs whilst the challenger, looking to bounce back from a loss to Yuya Yanaka, was 117.7lbs.
